Greenville Pathology, P.A. Histology Department offers high quality Histopathology services for the processing and interpretation of your pathology tissue specimens. Greenville Pathology, P.A. Histology Department strives to provide the most rapid turn around time possible without compromising the quality of the specimen. Our laboratory provides the latest technologies in equipment, including microwave processing and procedures, which provide consistent quality results. Consultative review of difficult cases is welcomed. A report will be issued on the same day the slides are received, barring any possible additional studies.
Greenville Pathology, P.A. offers the highest quality of cytology services including the ThinPrep® Pap Test. This technology improves the accuracy in interpretation of pap smears. The ThinPrep® Pap Test technology provides the cytotechnologist and the pathologist with a slide that is not obscured by blood, mucus, or debris leaving a slide with a monolayer of cells. It has been proven to be more effective in identifying high grade squamous dysplastic lesions of the uterine cervix. In addition, the ASCUS (atypical squamous of undetermined significance) rate is less since the drying of pap slides is eliminated due to utilization of a liquid based collection technique. Because of the utilization of a liquid based collection technique there is residual sample available for additional tests to be performed. This is an FDA approved test that is more effective in detecting premalignant lesions in the uterine cervix.
Reflex testing can be done out of the ThinPrep® Pap Test Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, and Human Papilloma Virus. See Molecular Pathology for additional information.
The College of American Pathologists are promoting early detection of cancer by providing a free e-mail reminder for our yearly Pap smear, mammogram, and colon cancer screening. To register visit the College of American Pathologists at: www.MyHealthTestReminder.com
Greenville Pathology, P.A. offers Molecular Pathology testing; including Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, and Human Papilloma Virus.
Chlamydia and Gonorrhea testing utilizes nucleic acid amplification, which gives the best sensitivity and specificity available. We may utilize the ThinPrep® vials that are used for Pap smears, M4, Uriprobe, or GenProbe swabs may be used for collection from genital areas or random urine may be used.
Human Papilloma Virus uses the nucleic acid hybridization with signal amplification. This detects 18 types of Human Papilloma Virus in cervical samples, separately designating both high and low risk types. This technology can utilize either Cytyc's ThinPrep® sample for Pap smears or a sample may be collected using cervical sampler swab.
These technologies place Greenville Pathology on the cutting edge of molecular pathology testing for these diseases.
